SHA-256 File Checksum

Calculate a SHA-256 fingerprint of a file locally using Web Crypto.

How to use

  1. Select a file and press Calculate checksum.
  2. Compare the 64-character hexadecimal digest with a trusted checksum from its publisher.

About these formats

A checksum verifies that bytes match an expected reference, but does not by itself establish who published that reference.

Browser limitations

Web Crypto digest buffers the file in memory; very large files may exceed available memory.
